After nine years of squandering potential wedding money on wacky holidays, we finally made arrangements for our big day to be held in Wedderburn Castle, Duns, Scotland on the 22nd October, 2005. For those unaware or forgetful, Darrell proposed to Gill one year earlier on the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro to which she said 'yes, yes yes!'. Nice work and phew, what a relief.
Wedderburn was perfect for us as it allowed us to have a two-day knees up, civil ceremony onsite, subsequent party with no restrictions on finishing time, no ludicrously expensive bar drinks, and the ability to make as much noise as humanly possible without annoying other hotel guests or neighbours.
Figuring the weather would be tradionally English / Scottish, we made sure the whole weekend was spent enjoying ourselves indoors. We invited as many as we could (limited numbers as usual which was a shame) up for the Friday and Saturday as one day for tartan-swinging shenanigans was never going to be enough.
