Safari
If it wasn't for the combined-trip options associated with the Mount Kilimanjaro climb, we may never have done this safari since Kili was the primary reason for coming to Tanzania. I guess we always wanted to do the animal drives, but it doesn't seem so adventurous when you look at it in the brochures. How surprised we were.

Obviously it's not an 'active' type of trip as you spend most of your time seated or standing in the jeep. But in terms of seeing wildlife up-close in their natural habitat and photography opportunities, safari is absolutely fantastic. We were fortunate to book with an excellent tour guide who had 'eagle-eyes' for spotting faraway wildlife.

Tanzania is a great place to go for your safari experience. Quite cheap, wide array of all the classic African animals, a good variation in terrain, and a chance to meet the Maasai people who were perfect tribal hosts. Top marks!

Photographing lions sitting 4 metres away from the roofless jeep. They were totally disinterested in us anyway.
Not getting to see any blood, guts and action-packed big cat chase and kill sequences.
