Rogaining
Rogaining is an Australian cross-country navigation sport, very similar to what the rest of the world would term 'orienteering'. The main differences are that it is more focussed on team participation (minimum 2 persons) and the duration is usually longer (6 hours, 8, 12 or even 24 - wow!). We've only ever managed 6 - any more than this without good fitness and you may be looking at crying yourself to sleep.

We've tried a couple of events so far and it has, in the main part, been enjoyable. Basically you can make it as enjoyable or challenging as you want, and therein lies the beauty of the sport. Highly competitive people may initially find it frustrating as they fail to locate every marker, but give it time, improve your planning skills, tackle remote checkpoints very precisely in terms of direction and distance, stay on tracks or in-sight of reliable points of reference ... and you should see yourself rise up the leader-board.
