We only made the one trip to Mount Rose after staying the night in nearby Reno, Nevada ... of which my only memories of the place were a cheap subsidised casino hotel room and some excellent ribs at Tony Romas.
Drive south from Reno bearing west to Lake Tahoe on Highway 431 and you'll drive past Mount Rose ... in fact you can't miss the place as it's the one prominent mountain on the horizon as soon as you leave Reno.
Unfortunately our day at Mount Rose was in icy conditions so we probably didn't see the best of the resort. In fact, you get the impression this resort is regularly exposed to dry windy conditions given its placement on the edge of the Sierra Nevada mountain range.
Anyway, we had a go at enjoying ourselves, but the pistes were like hard packed ice with a sprinkling of talcum powder on top. Lots of board edge scraping and reluctance to take on any of the jumps in the terrain park. I think we had a few coffee breaks in between to see if things would soften up a bit, but nothing happened so we headed home early.
