Like much of this continent, the change you see from north to south is a real eye opener. In the north you have the bitter winter conditions which drives a rugged, almost hibernator type culture. In the south, the heat and proximity to Mexico and Cuba makes for a hispanic/latino culture and a slower pace of life.
We've always fancied the idea of walking the epic Appalachian Trail; at 2175 miles traversing most of eastern USA, it is not for the feint-hearted. Would it be the adventure of a lifetime, or would you get a bit bored day-after-day tramping through forests?
